Dedication

Video of recognition starts and ends approximately 6:50-13:00

Managing the complexities of a school district requires understanding all facets of school governance and operations. In addition to my board and committee responsibilities, I keep in touch with what is happening in the district by visiting the schools and interacting with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and business and operations personnel. I attend school events showcasing our students’ academic, athletic, and artistic accomplishments. I engage in continuing professional development on school-related issues through participation in state and regional organizations like the NYS School Boards Association.  In addition, my service on the board of Putnam-Northern Westchester BOCES gives me insights into career and technical education and special education services, as well as other resources to benefit our students.

I am proud of the significant growth and improvement our district has shown during my time on the Board. Some of our most notable accomplishments are:

  • The recently completed $45.5 million Future Facilities Project, completed on time and under budget.
  • Financial stability for the district.
  • Supporting the district’s work to implement the vision and mission of What School Can Be.
  • Continuous improvement in student assessment scores, ranking us as one of the top districts in the region and the State.
  • Implementing new and innovative courses and learning opportunities and reimagining grading and graduation requirements, even before the State adopted its New York Inspires educational initiative.
  • Adoption of important Board policies, including revision of the Student Code of Conduct to incorporate principles of restorative justice; guidelines for use of social media in district communications, personal social media use by staff members, and Board members’ use of social media for school-related communications; policies on internet use, data privacy and computer security; and anti-discrimination and harassment policies.
  • A school culture that makes our district a great place for professional educators and other staff to work and for students to learn.
  • Providing wide-ranging social and emotional supports for students, including for students with special needs and English Language Learners.

In the course of my Board service, I have received recognition for my service and commitment to public education and to our district, from my colleagues and from regional organizations.

I received the 2018 Mid-Hudson School Study Council Award of Excellence for School Board Service.
